This week is our last week of genius hour, which we have started the process of talking and thinking about what we will put into our presentation. We have also decided to just study all the quizlets and flashcards that we had made. We hope to find time over the break to hangout and practice speaking to each other and maybe even cook one more time. Me and Tiffany intend to also face time tonight or tomorrow to make sure we have pronunciations done and understand all the meanings. Last week we couldn't hangout due Tiffany and myself getting sick, which pushed us back a little bit. I have also talked to my parents about this being our last week and they plan on helping us with leaning all the words completely, being able to pronounce them right, and understand the meaning. We plan to make another blog after this that we will share our experiences and the progress we made over the weeks. Check back next week for our final blog post!!

This week me and Tiffany face-timed, we decided not to do a quizet this week or next week because we wanted to make sure we have all the quizlets studied form the past. We have started to go over all everything we have learned and putting words together to make sentences. We also have started to use words we have learned while talking to each other. We plan to hangout this weekend and cook something to help us memorize the cooking words and using them around each other. My parents will also teach us the proper way to word our sentences and correct our speaking. We plan to practice speaking to each other and trying to understand each other when talking. We also have decided to try a couple new study methods to see if our memorizing of these words have worked. Thank you for tuning into this weeks blog, check back next week to see how much we have improved and if the new study methods worked. This week me and Aimee face timed to learn some new words and test each other. We stuck with the idea from last week to learn colors and shapes. We learned extra terms in this week because we were making up for the week we took off for Thanksgiving. The colors we learned were simple colors like red, blue, and yellow. This helps our describing skills with objects or buildings near by. This also helps with the culture by being able to go to the country and see things and describe them to the people who live there and speak the language. Aimee's parents are still helping us with the pronunciations and other was to remember these words. Some study methods we have used is flash cards, the Quizlet matching games, testing each other, and just speaking the words randomly and trying to talk back or say in English what they just said. Thank you for tuning into thus weeks blog. Check back next week to see our progress. If you have any questions click on the tab above and contact us!
This week we decided to take the week off for Thanksgiving. We were able to look back at the past words and use them in the kitchen. This helped with our pronunciations because Aimee's family corrected us when we needed it. We were able to experience the real Polish traditions and language of cooking. Aimee and I hung out on Thanksgiving and agreed on switching subjects of the words. We decided to focus on a similar subject like shapes and colors. We think this can be helpful with describing objects and places. Tune into next week to see what types of colors and shapes we learn!!
This week Aimee and I decided we would learn kitchen supply words to go along with the food words. Since we cooked a couple weeks ago and we would like to soon again and because Thanksgiving is coming up we decided that these terms would be the most useful. Aimees Parents will talk alot in Polish since it is their first language while they are cooking so it would be cool if I could understand or speak and Aimee be able to actually talk and ask for these supplies. Some of the easy ways we learned these words is with "pan" we saw it had the same first and second letter p and a. We also decided we would do easier to pronounce words like "noz" it is pronounced noosh. That word is pretty fun to say so I automatically know it is knife. We are finally putting all the simpile kitchen and food words together and we might be able to use them in actual situations very soon. Thank you for tuning in to this weeks blog, make sure you read next weeks an check out the quizlet below!!
This week me and Aimee decided we would learn some words that would be useful in the kitchen since Thanksgiving is coming up and we are learning about the Polish foods. We choose to stick to simple words that we could catch on too, like "water" is "woda". We think this word is easy since it kind of sounds like water and looks like soda. Another word that is pretty easy to catch on to is "soup". The Polish word for this is "zupa", it is easy to pick up this word because it is fun to say and easy to pronounce. Over the past week me and Aimee have learned that the words that are easier to pronounce are easier to learn. We have also discovered that the words that look similar to the English version are easier than the ones that look completely different because our brains have learned growing up what these words look like. This method is kind of similar to scrambled word games where it is easy for us to unscramble them. The quizlet link is below to see all the words we learned this week. Tune in for next week too see what words we learn next and what foods we make using these resourceful words!
Me and Aimee hung out this weekend and it was her nieces birthday. That meant that most of her family was at the house. We got to sing the "Happy Birthday" song in polish. This was pretty simple for the both of us since we do it every year for all the birthdays we are together, even though we already know the song it is still pretty cool to know that part of the Polish culture. We decided not to do vocabulary this week since we had a lot going on, but we decided we will review words and pronunciations. We also concluded to resume the vocabulary next week. If we have time after learning the words we will make another polish food and share it on the blog. Tune in next week to see the new words and culture we learn!! If you have any questions ask them in the question tab.
This week we learned the polish numbers one through eight. These words were pretty easy to pick up because they are some of the stepping stones of Polish. We ended up not being able to hangout this past weekend, but we face timed and Aimee's dad helped us wit pronunciation of the numbers. We were able to hang out on Friday to make the perogis after the Davie football game. We had so much fun pretending to be apart of the true Polish culture. At first Aimee's mom showed us how to do it then we tried making them on our own. We tried ours and they turned out pretty delicious. Check out our quizlet below that includes the numbers we learned. We hope you come back next week to see what we do next!!
Last week me and Aimee didn't have time to hang out so we decided to make the porogies later this week, but so far this week me and Aimee took a break from learning words and decided it was time to study past words. We did this to make sure we have pronunciations and the words in general memorized. We face timed and looked over our quizlets to try to connect the words together and make sentences. We were also starting to use the sentences to form simple conversations. Some of the conversations consisted of week one words and phrases like "how are you", we were also working on replies like "good" and "bad". This conversation we formed looked like "jak sie masz" "dobrze" or "zty". A mnemonic we used to remember "bad" is it has the same number of letter as the word. If you have any questions or suggestions leave them in the comments or questions tab. Stay tuned too see the new words we decide to learn next week!
This past weekend we got to face time to study past words and learn some new words. Looking back on past words we have found that "z" is pronounced as "h" and "j" is pronounced as "y." Like in the word "school" the word is "szkola" but it is pronounced shkola and "loj" is pronounced loy. We were looking to find a Polish recipe to learn a part of their culture. A recipe we discovered is for pierogies. We are planning to hang out this weekend to be able to make the pierogies together. Aimee's mom has made these for us in the past, but we are going to have her help us out to make sure we are getting measurement's correct. When we make the pierogies, we will attach a picture to show how they turned out. Our Quizlet link for the week three words are linked below tune into next weeks blog!
